Today Square Enix revealed tnew gameplay of the upcoming train simulation game Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote-sen.
The video showcases PS4 gameplay as the Switch version will come at a later date, and features a special guest.
We get to see SaGa creator Akitoshi Kawazu taking over the controls and aiming for the perfect stop on the iconic Yamanote Line in Tokyo.
If you’re wondering, the main point of the gameplay is to stop your train as close as possible to the mark without being late.
The latter is relevant for obvious reasons (and a point of pride for train conductors in Japan), while the former is also important. In Japan travelers will line up at marked areas on the platform. On top of that, many stations in Tokyo have barriers and gates that open only where the doors are supposed to be. Due to that, if a driver misses the mark even by a little bit, boarding and leaving the train may very well be extremely awkward or impossible.
Let’s just say that Kawazu-san may use a bit more practice before they put him at the controls of a real Yamanote Line train.
This is the first video of a series that will see popular Square Enix developers taking in the role of conductors of trains instead of development teams.

At the moment, Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote-sen has been announced only for Japan. It’ll release locally for PS4 on December 3, 2020 and for Switch at a later date. If you want to see more, you can check out plenty of gameplay from a few weeks ago.
A western release has not been announced, and it may be unlikely. Yet, a man can dream.
