Last Friday we saw the release of the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, a faithful recreation of the beloved original Crash Bandicoot trilogy. A great many loved this game back in the day when it was on the original PlayStation, and apparently many are still fond of the wacky marsupial; the game has hit number one in the UK charts, beating out even Horizon: Zero dawn’s debut week in sales.
The fact that Crash has beaten out Horizon in sales numbers makes it the most successful single-platform video game launch of 2017 so far, which is impressive to say the least for a game that initially launched 21 years ago. This week’s charts result also makes it the first time a Crash Bandicoot game has ever reached the number 1 spot in the UK charts. Overall, Crash sits just behind Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which launched multi-platform.
The rest of the top ten is the usual fare: GTA V sitting at #3, FIFA 17 at #5, and Overwatch at #6; you can see the full charts below. An interesting addition to the charts is Micro Machines World Series taking the silver medal. The game launched last week to very mixed reviews, so we’re guessing it’s just been a slow week for games. Another new launch last week was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remastered as a standalone game, which is curiously nowhere to be found in the top ten – maybe all the drama surrounding DLC and weapon crates has really taken its toll.
