Square Enix has announced that Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV is a “proper standalone game” as it will feature several game modes and boss fights where players will utilize other tools besides a fishing rod.

In Square Enix’s Monster of the Deep presentation at the first PlayStation Experience 2017 South East Asia event this Saturday, Final Fantasy XV Lead Designer Wam Hamzer said players will fight against “daemons in fish form.” For those unaware, daemons are strong nocturnal monsters that plague Eos’s citizens.

To capture a boss, a crossbow must be used to tranquilize the daemon fish before players can reel it in with a fishing rod. Surprisingly, not all fish swim in Monster of the Deep. Due to Final Fantasy’s fantasy elements, we’ll probably encounter flying bosses that will need to be reeled in once taken down.

Hamzer says Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV is a “solid, intuitive, and stress-free” PSVR fishing game, which features a Story Mode, Free Mode, and Mobhunts. Free mode allows players to freely explore areas in the game, while Mobhunts are similar to bounty hunts where money earned can be used to upgrade one’s fishing gear.

Throughout Monster of the Deep, players will fish together with Noctis and friends in fishing spots found in Final Fantasy XV, as well as newly created areas. Unlike Final Fantasy XV, you’ll play as yourself in Monster of the Deep, and act as the fifth party member alongside Noctis, Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis. VR players can immerse themselves while hearing Noctis and pals talk to you and banter with one another.

Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV is scheduled for release in September 2017 on PSVR, and is not included in Final Fantasy XV’s Season Pass.
