A member of the NPD group, Mat Piscatella, shared an image today on his Twitter account, an image that will remind all of us how much the gaming landscape has changed since the 90’s. These top-selling games from the past 23 years will tell us just which franchise is on top and who brings in the most money, especially in recent years.
Now, after I looked at this list, I wasn’t too surprised to spot Call of Duty on the list multiple times, but I never expected each entry to be the number one game each year since 2009. Now, Grand Theft Auto V, of course, dethroned Call of Duty: Ghosts for that year, Rockstar’s open-world title being the most successful thing in entertainment, like ever.
You can also see how much power Nintendo had in the industry back in the late 90’s with games like Pokemon Stadium and Donkey Kong, which if you asked me today, I would have had no idea that they sold so many copies. Anyways, you can check out the list below:
