The new studio is aptly named Bandai Namco Research Institute Toho Studio Lab because it has been opened in the famous Toho Studios, well-known for their work on anime.

The studio, born under the publisher “Creating Entertainment Innovation” mission, will conduct research, prototyping, and development on “cutting edge technologies” based on the company’s game development know-how.

According to the press release, the application of said tech will be for AI, augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.

Below you can check out a few images of the studio. While it’ll likely take some time before we see tangible results, it’s nice to see that Bandai Namco is working on pushing its tech.

The publisher has felt a bit behind for years in the technological field, but recently it has accelerated, resulting i virtual reality amusement parks like Mazaria and greatly enhanced visuals for its newest anime-style games like Blue Protocol, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, and The Idolmaster: Starlit Season.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of innovative tech the folks working at the new studio will create. For the moment, we wait.
