First of all, we learn about the story of the game, which is set in Ark,  a near-future multi-cultural city. Suddenly, gates to another dimension appear and dangerous creatures emerge from them, attacking the citizens and polluting the land.

Unfortunately, traditional police forces don’t stand a chance against the invaders, and a special police unit named Neuron is formed to fight back.

The player is able to choose among two playable characters, one male and one female. The character that isn’t chosen isn’t left out but plays a role in the story and gameplay as the protagonist’s younger twin and fellow member of Neuron.

In order to fight against the invaders, humanity has developed a new weapon called “Legion” which act as a partner and helps with investigations. Yet, the Legion’s true power is shown in combat.

There are several ways and combat styles that can be used to fight together with the Legion in Astral Chain. It can attack the enemy simultaneously as the player, they can target different enemies, or it can even attack autonomously while the player supports it. The “synergetic action system” can be used to fight and explore together with this humanoid weapon.

Incidentally, Astral Chain’s pre-orders are already available in Japan. There the standard edition is priced at 7,980 yen plus taxes, and there is a Collector’s Edition priced at 9,980 yen plus taxes.

The Collector’s Edition includes the game, an artbook, and a soundtrack CD. Unfortunately, at the moment we have no info about the availability of this SKU in the west. Hopefully, Nintendo will announce it at a later date.

In the meanwhile, you can check out a batch of screenshots below.
