The arrival of Jean Grey tonight not only brings the most anticipated card this season, but it finally completes the original X-Men team in Marvel Snap. Besides Phoenix Force being in the Battle Pass, there will be four brand-new cards in this Rise of the Phoenix season, two of them being Series 5-rarity, like Jean Grey herself. The most powerful member of the X-Men comes to the Token Shop costing 6,000 Tokens and promises to shake up the meta with a quite intense ability. Keep reading to find out our verdict on Jean Grey in Marvel Snap and the best decks to try with her.
Is Jean Grey Worth Buying in Marvel Snap?
Jean Grey is a 3-cost and 3-Power card with the Ongoing ability to make both players play their first card on the location she’s placed every turn, if possible. If Jean’s location is full or unplayable, you can play anywhere, and if both players use Jean Grey, they can choose one of the two locations to play. Incredibly fitting for the character, Jean Grey can do great in control decks, so great that I think it’s a matter of time until she gets nerfed for being too annoying. Cards like Kitty Pryde, Jeff, Storm, Enchantress, and Doctor Doom can be a tough counter for her, though.
Even though Jean Grey is coming out just one day before Marvel Snap’s biggest patch introducing the Spotlight Caches, I think she’s worth spending 6,000 Tokens on. Besides being a cheap card with such an easy disruptive ability, I think it will take a while for Jean Grey to become available in Spotlight Caches, precisely because they will be out at the same time this week. But if you haven’t completed Series 3 yet, enjoy the cards you’ll unlock through the new caches first and save your Tokens.
Best Jean Grey Decks in Marvel Snap
If you decided to purchase Jean Grey, you certainly won’t regret trying these three decks with her.
Jean Grey Control Deck
- Rocket Raccoon
- Nebula
- Kitty Pryde
- Nightcrawler
- Jeff
- Daredevil
- Angela
- Star-Lord
- Jean Grey
- Gamora
- Professor X
- Spider-Man
In this control deck, we see Jean Grey allying forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy to prevent the opponent from taking your cubes. Don’t waste Rocket Raccoon on turn 1, he will be more effective in later turns synergizing with Angela, Star-Lord, or Gamora. When you finally play Jean Grey on turn 3, make sure she’s in a different location than Nebula, she should also be placed in the same lane as Angela, who will benefit from Kitty Pryde every turn. On turn 5, if you played Daredevil on 2, you can easily lock a location with Professor X or Spider-Man. On turn 6, you can move your Nightcrawler and Jeff if you need and drop Gamora and Rocket Raccoon at once.
Surfer Jean Grey Deck
- Nova
- Goose
- Invisible Woman
- Killmonger
- Jean Grey
- Storm
- Brood
- Silver Surfer
- Juggernaut
- Shadow King
- Maximus
- Sera
Silver Surfer decks are a thing again and they just got a new member with Jean Grey. While Goose will make things harder for your opponent in the final turns, Invisible Woman is great to hide the power of Shadow King and Maximus until turn 6. On turn 3, you can either lock a lane with Storm — followed by Juggernaut on turn 4 — or play Jean Grey. On turn 4, you can place Brood in Jean’s location and move on to the others while the opponent will still be stuck with her ongoing effect. Sera is a must on turn 5, obviously, and should be followed on turn 6 by Killmonger and Silver Surfer.
Ongoing Jean Grey Deck
- Nebula
- Ant-Man
- Mojo
- Luke Cage
- Armor
- Jean Grey
- Mister Fantastic
- Captain America
- Cosmo
- Professor X
- Iron Man
- Spectrum
Ongoing decks already proved to be one of the most consistent in Marvel Snap. With Jean Grey in this one, it gets even better. Play cards like Ant-Man, Mojo, Luke Cage, or Armor in the same location you will play Jean Grey. Our objective is to fill that lane by turn 4, leaving the opponent trapped there while we lock another location with Professor X on turn 5. It doesn’t hurt to remember that Nebula should never be with Jean Grey. If you didn’t pull Professor X, Iron Man can easily increase your Power in any other location followed by Spectrum on turn 6.
Jean Grey is an incredibly powerful card — as she should be — so we’d recommend running decks with Enchantress to counter her, such as the Hit-Monkey/Sera Miracle deck. For even more decks and guides, check out the related links below!
