Medals are more aesthetic rewards than anything else, but they are tied to a couple of different Mii outfits, like the Koopa Troopa suit. You can earn medals by placing on the leaderboards in ten different categories. Those categories in Super Mario Maker 2 are,

  • Maker Points (All Time)
  • Maker Points (Weekly)
  • Number of Level Clears
  • Number of First Clears
  • Number of World Records
  • Multiplayer Versus Score
  • Endless Challenge Score Easy
  • Endless Challenge Score Normal
  • Endless Challenge Score Expert
  • Endless Challenge Score Super Expert

You can earn medals in any and all of these categories in Super Mario Maker 2, but you’ll have to place within the top 10,000 players for each one.

It should be noted that you only have the medals as long as you stay in each leaderboard, so if you drop below 10,000 you’ll lose that medal. However, any unlocks and outfits you’ve gotten from medals will always be yours.

The kind of medal you get is directly tied to your placement on each leaderboard. The absolute top three players will respectively get Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ribbon Medals.

From there, the player in 4-100 will get a Gold Medal, 101 – 2000 will get a Silver Medal, and 2001 to 10,000 will be awarded a Bronze Medal.

Obviously the Maker Points weekly will probably be the easiest to place in, as it resets each week. The rest, on the other hand, will probably only get harder to place in as times goes on and players wrack up more and more points.

That’s everything you need to know about how to get medals in Super Mario Maker 2. For even more tips, tricks, and guides make sure to search Twinfinite or check out a few more helpful ones right below.
