Rhyperior is the evolution of Rhydon in Pokemon Sword and Shield. It’s an incredibly powerful Pokemon and one you’ll need to add to your Pokedex if you’re gonna catch ’em all. Here’s how to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Getting Rhyperior in Pokemon Sword and Shield
We’ve broken down each step of how to get Rhyperior in Pokemon Sword and Shield below.
1. Catch a Rhyhorn or Rhydon
First off, you’re going to need to get either a Rhyhorn or a Rhydon. Rhyhorn can be found in the following locations:
- Motostoke Riverbank – 25-40% chance
- Bridge Field – 30% chance
- Route 8 – 20% chance
- Stony Wilderness – 40% chance
- Giant’s Mirror – 50% chance
- Giant’s Cap – 30%-60% chance (dependent on weather)
Rhydon can be found:
- Route 10 – 25% chance
- Dusty Bowl – 100% chance
- Lake of Outrage – 33%
- Wild Area – Can be found roaming the various Wild Areas in certain weather conditions.
Whether you opt to get a Rhyhorn and train it up to a Rhydon, or you just want to skip straight to the middle evolution you’re almost ready to get Rhyperior in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Now it’s just a case of getting the ‘Protector’ item.
2. Get the Protector Evolution Item to Get Rhyperior
With a Rhydon now in your possession, it’s simply a case of getting the Protector item. There are two ways to get the Protector.
The first is to simply buy it. This can be done by spending Battle Points (BP) earned at the Battle Tower from the girl to the right of the Poke Mart in the Pokemon Center in the center of Hammerlock.
It costs 10BP and can be bought repeatedly this way.
If you’ve not yet reached the Battle Tower, or you’d just rather not spend that precious BP, you can always get the Protector on Route 9. Start at the Route 9 Flying Taxi point by Spikemuth.
When you start riding your Rotom Bike on the water, keep as far right as you can past a bunch of tall, spiky rocks.
Just past these and over to the right, you’ll spot an NPC by a berry tree. Ignore them and head north through the water just to the left of them, through those rocks in the image above.
You’ll now see an NPC stood by a red sign. Ignore him, go clockwise around him and then start heading east when you reach 1/2 o’clock on this imaginary clock. You’ll now see this tiny island with this sign.
Press A on the Poke Ball next to it to get the Protector item for free.
3. Trade Rhydon With Protector to Get Rhyperior in Pokemon Sword & Shield
Open your Bag and give the Protector item to Rhydon. Next, arrange to trade Rhydon with a friend and have them trade it back. Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior in Pokemon Sword and Shield when it’s traded holding the Protector item.
