Are Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Coming to the 3DS? Answered
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were just announced for the Nintendo Switch as a late 2019 title. This pair of games features an entirely new region with three new starters and all. If you still keep up with your 3DS and continue to play older titles such as Sun/Moon or X and Y, you would probably like to know if Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are coming to the 3DS, right?
Well, ever since we knew that this game would be coming to the Switch, it turns out that the pair of games is, indeed, exclusive to Nintendo’s new hybrid system and doesn’t appear to be coming to the 3DS anytime soon.
The release of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the last two mainline games to come to the 3DS, so we can expect for Sword and Shield to remain Switch exclusives, at least until The Pokemon Company says otherwise.
Maybe there will be some sort of companion game that Game Freak will develop for the 3DS, but with the handheld system being out for eight years now, we highly doubt that. It’s likely that if you want to continue your Pokemon adventures, you’ll need to be content with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, or invest in a Nintendo Switch.
And that is all you need to know about whether Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are coming to the Nintendo 3DS. I hope we answered your question to the best of our ability.
