AR Mapping Tasks are finally here in Pokemon GO after five months of waiting. The name changed a bit from the first announcement (PokeStop Scanning), but it’s still the same basic idea. Here’s everything you need to know about how to do AR Mapping Tasks in Pokemon GO.
How To Do AR Mapping Tasks in Pokemon GO
As you might expect, the AR in the name stands for Augmented Reality. That means you’re going to be using the rear camera on your phone to scan PokeStops and Gyms. But first, you’ll need to be able to identify which locations will give you AR Mapping Tasks.
Just like with EX Raid Gyms, AR Mapping PokeStops and Gyms will have a small indicator at the top of the screen to let you know you can get a Task there (see below). As long as you’re level 20, then you’ll be able to get these Tasks as a part of Field Research.
First, spin one of these designated AR Mapping Gyms or PokeStops to receive the Task. Then, tap on it in the Field Research menu to start the scanning process. Of course, Pokemon GO will need to have access to your camera and you’ll need to be close enough to the PokeStop for you to scan it.
If you’re not sure what close enough means, then just imagine you’re taking quality pictures of the PokeStop or Gym from every angle. It needs to be the main focus of what your camera is scanning.
Once you complete the task, then you’ll receive a reward. You can check out the list below to see what rewards you may receive for completing these AR Mapping Tasks. We’ll update the list as we confirm more rewards. Also, it’s important to note that this will count towards your daily Field Research.
Rewards:
- One Rare Candy
- *More to come*
Here’s a quick tl;dr for how to do AR Mapping Tasks in Pokemon GO:
- Spin an AR Mapping PokeStop or Gym
Tap on any Gym or PokeStop. If it says AR Mapping in the upper left corner above the name of the location, then you can get one of these new Tasks there.
- Tap the AR Mapping Task
This will be listed with your Field Research Tasks.
- Scan the Location
The Task will either have you scan the PokeStop or Gym that you just spun or one nearby. Use your back camera to scan the location from every angle.
- Claim your Reward
Once you complete the scan and tap on the completed task, then you’ll receive your reward.
That’s all there is to know about how to do AR Mapping Tasks in Pokemon GO. Now get out there and map the Pokemon GO world.
