New World certainly hasn’t launched without its fair share of problems, though most of them were resolved within a day of release. If you’ve updated Steam recently, chances are good that you might encounter this error when trying to launch the game. A pop-up will appear, saying that the game is unable to launch due to the presence of an untrusted system file, and it’s related to anti-cheat software.

At the time of writing, this seems to be an issue with Steam and not necessarily with New World itself. Thankfully, there is a way to get around this issue, though it will require you to mess around a little with your Steam configuration files.

Thanks to the folks over at the New World forums, we’ve found out that you need to download a slightly older steamclient64.dll file, which you can do so here, then replace that in the Steam folder on your computer. The default location should be C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam.

You will also need to download the Steam.cfg file linked above, open it, and ensure that it has the following command: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable

Once you’ve followed these steps, simply boot up the game again and you should be able to log in and play without any problems. Hopefully Steam will be able to resolve the issue soon and push out an official fix for it, but until then, this seems to be the only workaround.

That’s all you need to know about how to fix the untrusted system file error in New World. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
