The newest Iceborne expansion for Monster Hunter World adds in more than a dozen new monsters, new combat maneuvers, and a slew of story quests that make it feel more like a sequel than a simple update. Are you wondering whether or not the Iceborne expansion is free? Well, here’s what you need to know.
Is Iceborne Expansion Free? What You Need to Know
I hate to break it to those who may have been excited to check out some of the monsters and story quests, but the new massive Iceborne expansion is not free and actually costs the price of some full-length video games.
The expansion costs $39.99 if you buy it separately from the base game of Monster Hunter World but if you’ve yet to purchase the vanilla version, there will be a bundle available that comes with the expansion for only $59.99.
By purchasing the expansion, your base game will be updated and you will then have access to the new outpost, Seliana, and the new icy locale, the Hoarfrost Reach.
What You Need to Know Before Buying Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Just as a forewarning, you need to make sure that you have completed the main story of the base game before you jump into Iceborne, as the expansion comes with a new rank of quests called Master Rank and it’s very difficult.
And that’s pretty much all you need to know about whether or not the Iceborne expansion is free. For more on Monster Hunter World, feel free to check out our extensive wiki guide or our fully scored review on the base game and the expansion.
