How Long Outer Wilds Takes to Beat & How Many Planets There Are

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Outer Wilds is a fresh, new space exploration game from the talented folk over at Mobius Digital. It’s basically Groundhog Day meets space exploration, tasking you with uncovering the mysteries of the solar system in 22-minute chunks before the sun goes supernova and you start from your home planet all over again. Here’s how long Outer Wilds takes to beat.

How Long it Takes to Complete Outer Wilds

In terms of actually completing Outer Wilds’ main quest path, you’re probably at looking at least over 10 hours. However, giving an exact figure of how long it’ll take you to reach the credits ultimately depends on how quick you are to solve the various puzzle-based sections of Outer Wilds.

Considering we found the rumor and hints system to be fairly vague, it could take longer than expected.

For us, we spent between 25-30 hours beating Outer Wilds, but this did involve us trying to uncover just about everything we possibly could in the solar system, as well as us having a good few failed attempts along the way.

You can also reach Outer Wilds’ credit faster by reaching its ‘bad ending’ so to speak, but this can be done slightly faster than reaching the Eye of the Universe.

How Many Planets There Are

There are eight planets that you’ll be able to land on in Outer Wilds, though the last and final one that we’ve listed down below is a bit of a spoiler and you won’t be able to land on immediately until you’ve advanced in the game’s narrative and learned a few lessons along the way.

Many of these planets have their own unique twist that makes exploring them immediately unique and different to the others. This helps freshen up gameplay, too, with puzzles that you’ll need to solve if you’re to uncover all of the mysteries of the solar system.

You can check out the full list of planets in Outer Wilds below, but again, be warned of a slight spoiler at the bottom.

  • Timber Hearth
  • The Attlerock
  • Giant’s Deep
  • Brittle Hollow
  • Dark Bramble
  • Ash Twin
  • Ember Twin
  • The Interloper
  • Quantum Moon
