Pokemon Legends Arceus is a fantastic first attempt for the series going fully open-world. Players can now explore large, open areas as they catch and battle Pokemon to complete requests across the Hisui region. It’s the evolution many fans have felt the series needed for quite some time, but by making a larger world, Pokemon Legends Arceus struggles with its performance, particularly its framerate and visuals on the, now five-year-old, Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to get things running smoother. Here’s how to increase FPS in Pokemon Legends Arceus.
Increasing Performance in Pokemon Legends Arceus
The main way you can actually increase your FPS in Pokemon Legends Arceus is to play the game in handheld mode, rather than placing your Nintendo Switch in the dock and playing on your TV.
This was actually discovered by Digital Foundry, where they found that playing in handheld would limit the resolution to 720p, and in doing so would maintain a steadier framerate.
When playing in docked, the game aims for a 1080p resolution, but this ultimately impacts the FPS that you’ll get when playing on your TV.
Outside of this, just make sure you’re keeping the game updated with the latest patches that Nintendo and Game Freak release. While there’s not been any specific mention of these directly being focused on improving performance and the FPS, they could always help improve some slight hitches and hiccups.
However, because the Nintendo Switch doesn’t enable players to change the graphical settings, there’s no way you can drastically increase the FPS in Pokemon Legends Arceus, outside of playing in handheld mode and keeping the game up-to-date.
