Next, select “Host Online Game” and choose whether you want to load an existing save, or start a new game entirely.

Once the game has loaded, you’ll then need to tell your friends to select the “Multiplayer” option from the main menu screen and select “Join Online Game.”

Have them select the “Search for Friends” option.

How to Fix Grounded Multiplayer Not Working Issue

It’s worth pointing out that Grounded is in early access, and some players have found that the multiplayer can be a bit hit-and-miss with when it chooses to work.

When this happens, you have two options to try that some players have had some success with.

The first is simply a case of repeating the process. If your friends fail to join your multiplayer session, have them keep trying and eventually they should be able to get in.

If this still isn’t working for you, some players have reported that having the host stay on the ‘Character Select’ screen while the other players join their Grounded multiplayer session has yielded better results.

Of course, these are temporary issues that Obsidian is aware of and is currently trying to resolve during this early access period. With a bit of luck, we’ll have a proper fix released via an update soon.

Can You Play Grounded in Split-Screen, Local Multiplayer?

Unfortunately, no. At this moment in time Obsidian has included a split-screen local co-op mode in Grounded. Instead, you’ll have to play Grounded in online co-op if you’re looking to explore the back yard with friends.

That’s everything you need to know on how to play Grounded co-op multiplayer in both local and online modes. For more on Grounded, be sure to check out our coverage below.
