How to Unlock the Abyss in Fire Emblem Cindered Shadows
Once you have the Expansion Pass installed, you’ll be able to start playing through the new Cindered Shadows Side Story. Completing the first chapter will allow you to explore the Abyss in the Side Story, and you’ll also be able to explore it in the main story itself.
Load up your main game save file, or start a new one and progress through the story until you’ve completed the mock battle early on. After that, whenever you have an off day, choose to explore the Seminar and look for the Shifty Merchant NPC standing right outside Byleth’s personal quarters.
Talk to him, and you’ll have the option of visiting the Abyss.
At first, there won’t be much you can do here. However, if you have enough renown points saved up, you can talk to the Influencer NPC in the Abyss and offer up renown points to get more people to visit the area and unlock more activities. To start, you’ll be able to do supply run quests in the Abyss via the bulletin board.
In addition to that, you can also offer up items at the pagan statue for more renown points, or spend renown to acquire better weapons and equipment.
Exploring the Abyss definitely seems like a good use of time if you’re already on a new game plus playthrough, as you’ll likely have a lot of leftover renown points after fully upgrading all the saint statues in the cathedral.
