The Best Melee Weapons You Can Get in Fallout 76

The wasteland of West Virginia in Fallout 76 is a dangerous place. While it’s often best to keep your distance from the formidable creatures and monsters roaming the land, ammo is often hard to come by. As such, you’ll want to get your hands on the best melee weapons Fallout 76 has to offer in order to save some precious bullets when possible.

Below, we’ve given you a quick list of our top picks for the best melee weapons in Fallout 76, and a little further down explained exactly what it was about these that made them stand out from the rest of the crowd. So, without further ado, let’s dive right in.

Best Melee Weapons in Fallout 76

  • Blade of Bastet
  • Deathclaw Gauntlet
  • Fire Axe
  • Mr Handy Buzz Blade
  • Power Fist
  • Super Sledge
  • Meteoric Sword

Blade of Bastet

You’ll need to join the Mistress of Mysteries in order to get your hands on this melee weapon in Fallout 76, but it’s certainly worth putting the effort in to get. With a whopping 53 ballistic damage and a medium speed, the Blade of Bastet is one of the best one-handed melee weapons in Fallout 76 hands down. It even has increased armor penetration to boot.

Deathclaw Gauntlet

I mean, when you’re talking about the best melee weapons, it kind of goes without saying that the giant claw of one of the most formidable creatures of the wasteland would be up there. It’s got 48 ballistic damage, and is a punching-type melee weapon.

However, it does have a few downsides, namely its hefty weight of 10, and its required minimum and crafting level of 30. Still, once you reach level 30, you’re going to be rocking a mean melee weapon in Fallout 76.

Fire Axe

Now now, just because it doesn’t have some cool name or insane stats, doesn’t make the Fire Axe any less awesome in Fallout 76. It’s got a low weight at 3, and its minimum required level to wield and craft is just 5.

And for that, you get a two-handed melee weapon that dishes out 42 ballistic damage per swing. Granted, it’s a slow swing, but it’s perfect for dispatching Scorched and Ghouls. Plus, being available at such a low level puts in its a league of its own as one of the best melee weapons in Fallout 76’s early stages.

Mr Handy Buzz Blade

Okay okay, so the Fire Axe didn’t blow you away. Well, here’s giant circular saw on the end of a Mr Handy arm. You happy now? Well, you should be, because this two-handed melee weapon has a minimum level of 15 (same for crafting, too), and has a very fast swing speed. Plus, to top it off, its damage stat is 51 of pure ballistic goodness.

Hold down your melee button (RT/ R2) and you’ll thrust this towards your target and it’ll begin spinning and tearing through them. Add on its Electrified mod and it gets even stronger. An absolute beast of a melee weapon in Fallout 76.

Power Fist

The Power Fist is on the same level as the Deathclaw Gauntlet in Fallout 76 as one of the best melee weapons. Its got a medium speed stat, and dishes out 48 ballistic damage to boot. Furthermore, it only has a carry weight of 3, meaning it’s not going to clog up your inventory if you make it your go-to melee weapon.

The only downside to the Power Fist is that, if you’re going to craft it in Fallout 76, you’ll need the Iron Fist Strength perk at level 2. Although, if you’re into punching melee weapons, you might have already invested in this.

Super Sledge

This was a tough one, as the standard Sledgehammer could easily replace the Super Sledge in our picks of the best melee weapons in Fallout 76 due to its sheer number of mods. However, the Super Sledge kind of sits in a league of its own when it comes to damage with a stat of 77. That’s a damage stat that we’ve yet to see any other base melee weapon come close to so far in Fallout 76.

Much like the Power Fist, though, the Super Sledge does have some crafting restrictions in that you’ll need the Slugger perk card up to level 2 in order to make it yourself. You’ll also need to be level 30 to both craft and use it, which makes it unattainable for players just starting out on their adventure.

Meteoric Sword

At first glance, the Meteoric Sword literally looks like a rusty old sword, but its stats will remind you not to judge a book by its cover. You cannot craft the Meteoric Sword, and it’s only a potential reward for completing the event ‘Lode Baring’, but if you do, you’re in for a treat. With a weight of 0.3 (yes, you read that right), and a damage of 36, this has a tiny footprint in your inventory, but packs a punch, too.

What’s more, it deals an additional 10% damage to other players, Ghouls, and Scorched, and has 50% more durability than any other sword in Fallout 76. You will have to be level 20 to use it, but once you’ve got it, there’s very little else that’s quite as effective at dispatching human-based enemies in Fallout 76.

There you have our picks for the best melee weapons in Fallout 76.
