Preparing for Morgott, the Omen King

It turns out that Morgott is actually the true form of the first major boss in the game, Margit. This means that Margit’s Shackle — a key item that you buy from Patches — can still be used to keep him from accessing his full moveset.

There will be a ton of messages on the ground before the fog door that leads to the fight, but make sure to look past them to find Melina’s summon sign. You can make this a three-on-one fight by also using Spirit Ashes — preferably the Mimic Tear Ashes that are found in Nokron, Eternal City.

No matter which summon spirit you choose, having three ways to attack the boss all at once is a huge help. He’ll have to split his attention between the three of you and Melina is somewhat of a tank, despite the fact that she isn’t wearing any real armor. The Mimic Tear Ashes can be upgraded to be just as sturdy as well. And you should bring blood loss Incantations like Bloodflame Blade or blood loss weapons to deal extra damage

Morgott, the Omen King Phase 1

Since this is Margit’s true form, many of the moves you’re about to go up against are the same. There are more than a few new ones to look out for, but the lightning hammer and sword make a return to terrorize you once again. There’s also a lightning spear this time around, and it can be thrown at any target.

Morgott will probably open up with the spear throw, then get into his regular lightning weapon antics that come alongside attacks with a new sword that gives him some deceptively wide range. He’ll mix those in with the usual frantic jumps all over the place unless you have Margit’s Shackle.

With all that said, the first phase should be surprisingly simple to get through if you use the openings provided by Melina’s powerful Incantations and the Mimic Tear’s distractions. Don’t allow Morgott to get off multiple combos without retaliating, or you’ll be fighting forever. Instead, go for massive damage by dealing damage all at once.

I used the Moonveil katana with plenty of points in Int to deal decent damage at medium range, giving me just enough time to dodge if the boss’s focus ever shifted to me.

Morgott, the Omen King Phase 2

The second phase begins when the Omen King loses 50% of his HP. When that happens, he’ll erupt with energy that pushes you back and causes attacks to come up from the ground near where he’s standing. He’ll start yelling when this phase begins, so back up when you hear the screams. You can actually continue to get hits in as he screams if your build is more range-focused.

At this point, Morgott will enchant his weapon with black flames and switch between it, the lightning sword, hammer, and spear. His jumping restriction is also lifted, meaning Margit’s Shackle has done its job and outlives its usefulness.

The attacks get faster and come from more angles, but the Omen King’s attention shouldn’t be on you 100% of the time. If you ever need healing desperately, stand next to Melina whenever a golden tree forms near her — this is a healing Incantation that’ll help in a tough spot.

Offensively, use blood loss effects, Sorceries, and Incantations to keep up the pressure and even get some staggers in to end the fight, as prolonging it is worse for you than it is for him.
