How to Melee Attack in Anthem

Recommended Videos

Anthem is a game all about combat and traversal, and the game’s Javelin suits are an absolute blast to control. As you fly around areas you’ll have to take on a ton of different enemies, using every tool in your arsenal to take them down, including melee. Here’s how to melee in Anthem.

Your main focus in Anthem’s combat will be using your primary weapon and abilities, however, melee can come in handy when enemies charge you, which they definitely will do from time to time.

In these cases, all you need to do is press triangle on PS4 (Y on Xbox and V on PC), and your Freelancer will perform a melee attack. These deal a decent chunk of damage, so it’s a good way to stave off rushing enemies, or finish one off if you’ve just used the whole clip in your gun and need to reload.

Each of the four Javelin classes in Anthem have a different melee attack, so it’s important to be familiar with how each one works, and what situations you might want to use them in.

  • Ranger – Shock Mace – An upward strike right in front of the Ranger that can electrocute enemies. Causes moderate damage and can briefly stun them.
  • Colossus  – Heavy Smash – Able to smash into the ground from the air, and has a wider area of effect than other Javelin’s melee. Causes decent damage and is good for crowd control, if needed.
  • Storm – Fiery Strike – Executes a fiery punch straight ahead, and knocks back the enemy hit. Good for getting the Storm out of tight situations and escaping.
  • Interceptor – Double-Bladed Daggers – Strikes straight ahead with two daggers, can be chained quickly for successive strikes. The Interceptor excels at melee more than any other class, and is good for a kind of hit-and-run gameplay style.

That’s everything you need to know about how to melee in Anthem. For even more tips, tricks, and guides, make sure to search Twinfinite or check out our extensive Anthem wiki.
