Animal Crossing New Horizons is full of unique bugs and fish to collect (even venomous tarantulas), but most of them can only be obtained under certain conditions, such as during a specific time of the year, time, or even location. If you’re trying to get your hands on a specific type of butterfly, here’s what you need to know about how to get Sea Butterfly in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Getting Sea Butterfly in Animal Crossing New Horizons
The first thing that you need to know about catching this special butterfly is that it’s actually caught by using a fishing rod in the water and not with a bug net like other butterflies.
I managed to catch one in my game just the other day so I have all of the information that you need in order to catch it right here.
To get a Sea Butterfly, you need to be playing New Horizons during December-March. Once March comes to an end in a few days, you won’t be able to catch the Sea Butterfly until December unless you’re in the Southern Hemisphere or if you decide to break the rules and time travel. If you decide to time travel though, we won’t judge you.
You can see how the Sea Butterfly looks like down below:
You also want to fish in the open sea and not in the ponds, rivers, or other bodies of water. You want to be facing the big blue ocean when you’re looking for it –it’s impossible to get it any other way. Luckily, it’s available during all times of the day so you don’t have to worry about playing the game at a specific time.
In addition, look out for the small fish shadows in the water, as those are usually Butterflies.
Time needed: 3 minutes
