Nintendo previously announced that they would be implementing a paid online service for the Switch, and that it would be coming this fall. However, it looks like the service itself has been delayed to 2018, though the company has provided more substantial details about what it would entail.

First off, Switch owners can continue to enjoy free online play until 2018, when the service is implemented. The subscription fee is $3.99 a month, but you can also opt to pay for a whole year at a discounted price of $19.99. Subscribers will also have access to a classic games collection, with a free game each month.

‘Subscribers will get to download a compilation of classic titles with added online play, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. Mario.’

According to Kotaku, subscribers will be able to download and play the classic games anytime they like, with no restrictions aside from having a subscription to the online service.

There’s no set date on the Switch online service just yet, but we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.
