Sony’s PlayStation VR sold out within minutes of going on sale on Amazon sites across Europe, including the UK, France, and Germany.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that PlayStation VR will be released in October for $399/€399/£349. After the announcement Amazon revealed that the device would be available to pre-order at 11am GMT today, 16 March. However, in less than 10 minutes day-one stock was sold out in the UK, France and Germany. Sales were slower in Italy with day-one stock selling out a few hours later.
At 11am order confirmation emails, for UK orders, set the delivery date as Monday 3 October but less than 10 minutes later the date was set back to October 31, suggesting Amazon’s day-one allocation had sold out. This afternoon, the item’s listing was altered with a message saying: ‘We do not currently have a release date for this product. Based on our initial allocation we cannot guarantee release day delivery.’
You can still pre-order the item on European Amazon sites but no delivery date is given.
PlayStation VR will release in October this year for $399/€399/£349.
