Anyone who has been counting down the days until they could get their hands on the sequel to Rockstar’s beloved Western action adventure game just received some crushing news today. The anticipated release date for Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed to Spring 2018 despite the game initially being slated to release this fall. Rockstar published a blog post to make the disheartening announcement but promised avid fans of the series that the wait will be well worth it. The post insisted that the added time is necessary for Rockstar to be able to “deliver the best experience possible” for their fans.
It’s not surprising, by any means, that a game such as Red Dead Redemption 2 would see a delay considering the sky high expectations the original title set for the series. While it would be nice to see the title come out this fall, it’s far more important that the final result lives up to that kind of hype. The Internet went crazy about Rockstar even hinting at a Red Dead Redemption sequel back in October of 2016 so just imagine the cyber firestorm a lackluster product would spark.
In the midst of all the disappointment, however, Rockstar did take the time to show off exactly why they need the extra time to work on the highly anticipated title. Just as we all expected, Red Dead Redemption 2 is looking like an absolute masterpiece so far. Somehow it becomes pretty easy to look past the delay if a screenshot from the game in progress looks so stunning that upon first glance you aren’t sure if it’s an actual image lifted from the game or just some cool promotional photography of some guy really holding antique pistols.
So take your time, Rockstar. Take your time. Everyone knows you simply can’t rush greatness.
