Today Konami announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2022, which ended on March 31, 2022.
Below you can check out the performance of the whole company, which saw both revenue and business profit increase year-on-year. Operating profit actually doubled year-on-year.
One of the factors indicated for this growth is the “solid” performance of the Digital Entertainment business, which includes gaming and the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game.
Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh!, the new game Master Duel has passed 30 million downloads.
The press release also explains why the company has started to sell NFTs, allegedly “in an effort to preserve content that has been loved by customers as an art.”
The digital entertainment business improved (albeit relatively modestly) on all counts on the previous year’s already solid performance. The forecast for the current fiscal year (ending on March 31, 2023) shows the expectation for further improvement.
Below you can check out the pipeline of upcoming games, and there’s a mystery hidden in the list.
While Edens Zero: Pocket Galaxy for mobile platforms has recently been released, the Edens Zero console game that was announced at the same time at Tokyo Game Show 2020, has disappeared from the list. The game has been included in the pipeline since its announcement, and this is the first time it’s not there.
Of course, this is not an official confirmation that it has been canceled, but it’s possibly not a good sign, especially since Konami hasn’t said a word about it since 2020.
We reached out for clarification, and we’ll let you know if we hear anything relevant.
