Earlier today on the official Pokemon GO website, it was announced that Spheal will be the first Pokemon featured for a Community Day in 2022. The January event will take place on Sunday the 16th from 11 AM until 5 PM local time.
During this event, Spheal will appear in the wild more often. If you’ve never played during a Community Day event before, then you would know that more often is an understatement. And that’s some good news for shiny hunters since it’ll be possible to encounter a shiny Spheal in the wild during the January Community Day.
But the big news for Community Day is what move Spheal’s final evolution will get. Walrein will need all the help it can get since it has been a bit underused in Pokemon GO outside of Rayquaza raids. Fortunately, it’s looking like help is on the way with the additions of Icicle Spear and Powder Snow to Walrein’s moveset as Community Day-exclusive attacks. Of course, you’ll also be able to teach those moves using Elite TMs after the event ends.
Icicle Spear is the most interesting attack of the two since it’s currently not in Pokemon GO. This post only revealed that the attack will have a power of 60 in PvP and PvE battles. And Powder Snow is already well-known as a solid Ice-type fast attack. There’s no guessing how these additions will impact Walrein’s use in PvP or PvE, but it certainly seems like things are on the upswing for this Pokemon.
As for the event bonuses, there won’t be anything too different. The boost for January Community Day is going to triple catch XP, lures and incense will last for three hours, and Spheal will be photobombing your snapshots.
In the Shop, you’ll be able to pick up a ticket for $1 that will give you access to the Community Day-exclusive Special Research Story, The Spheal Deal. On top of that, there will be one free box with 30 Ultra Balls and one paid box that you can pick up in the Shop for 1280 PokeCoins containing 50 Ultra Balls, five Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs, and one Elite Fast TM.
