With the continued success of Activision and Raven Software’s Call of Duty: Warzone and the franchise as a whole, more and more cheaters are turning up to ruin the fun of others. After a massive wave of bans last month, Raven Software has initiated another wave today, with over 30,000 players getting bans for cheating in Call of Duty: Warzone.
That puts the numbers of cheaters to about 100,000 since we started 2021. The numbers are quite staggering, even if it can still feel like nothing has changed in the battle royale. With millions of players jumping in each and every day, the chances of meeting a cheater are still quite high.
The PC player base is a huge part of the community, and the easy access to hacks and cheats makes things even harder for Raven Software to get a handle on things. Throw in crossplay from consoles, and more players are at risk of having their experience ruined.
Despite the many bans in Call of Duty: Warzone, cheaters are still going to keep doing what they love. While the community is doing their part by bringing attention to the issues, it is still a race that is stacked against the rule-abiding players.
That said, bans in Call of Duty: Warzone do not really help in a sense. Although cheaters are losing their accounts, they can always make a new one to continue their cheating ways. Unless hacks and cheats are detected right at the start, there is no concrete way of stopping such undesirable behavior.
Perhaps Raven and Activision should explore authentication and authorization methods in order for players in Call of Duty: Warzone to jump into a match. The harder it is for cheaters to get away, the better it will be for the rest of us.
In the meantime, the good fight continues, and the efforts of Raven Software in handing out more Call of Duty: Warzone bans are still welcome.
