Square Enix has been releasing a series of videos showcasing its upcoming train simulator Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote-sen.
The video focus on developers from various popular games trying their hand at conducting a train on Tokyo’s iconic Yamanote Line.
While the first attempts were a tad underperforming, more videos have been released, with devs that are definitely getting the hang of it.
Today we see Bravely Default II producer Masashi Takahashi, Dragon Quest X producer Koji Aoyama, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius series producer Kei Hirono, and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories producer Ichiro Hazama.
All of them definitely improved on previous attempts, but the champion is definitely Hirono-san, who managed to nail the stop at Tamachi Station going only 0.2 cm long 8 seconds late. That’s far better than anyone else in this series did. I guess that’s not so surprising since he used to work at FromSoftware on Dark Souls.
If you’re wondering, the main point of the game is to manage power and brakes in order to get as close as possible to the ideal stopping point at each station, without running late at the same time. It may sound simple, but I guarantee it is not.
More videos are coming. Tomorrow it’ll be the turn of Square Enix big boss Yosuke Matsuda to stand under the spotlight, while fan favorite Naoki Yoshida (producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV) will take on the challenge on Monday.
At the moment, Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote-sen has been announced only for Japan. It’ll release locally for PS4 on December 3, 2020 and for Switch at a later date. If you want to see more, you can check out plenty of gameplay from a few weeks ago on top of the attempt by SaGa creator Akitoshi Kawazu.
A western release has not been announced, and it may be unlikely. Yet, a man can dream.
