Square Enix has launched a teaser countdown website that’s related to The World Ends With You. It was revealed via a tweet from Square Enix’s 1st Development Business Headquarters account and the timer is set to end on Nov. 24, seven days from now.
If you go over to the site, you’ll see the message “Time limit with 7 days,” and there’s also a music player at the bottom of the page that plays hip-hop music that sounds like it comes straight from The World Ends With You.
There’s no indication of what this announcement could be, but TWEWY fans have been let down many times by Square Enix when it comes to this cult JRPG franchise. But, can you really call it a “franchise” when there’s only been one single entry?
The World Ends With You initially released for the Nintendo DS back in 2007 and since then, has never received a proper sequel. There was a mobile port in 2012 for iOS and then for Android in 2014, and then back in 2018, an enhanced port titled Final Remix released for the Nintendo Switch.
Fans have been clamoring for a potential follow-up for over 10 years now to expand upon the story. However, there was an anime announced earlier this year that will re-tell the events of the game and it’s coming sometime in 2021.
It seems that the series is finally having its moment in the sun, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes out of this teaser site. I personally hope it’s TWEWY 2 for Switch, but who knows? Square Enix, please don’t announce another port, we can’t handle the pain any longer.
