Crusader Kings II has been out for many years and fortunately for fans of the popular grand strategy game, there have been plenty of quality mods released over the years to enhance your game, especially now that it’s free to download. Here’s a collection of ten of the best Crusader Kings II mods (CK2) that will enhance your experience whether it’s by making things prettier, adding unique scenarios, or making your life easier while waiting for the next game from Paradox Interactive.
Sketchy Cheat
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Sketchy cheat is a pretty self-explanatory mod but it’s one that a lot of players will find that they can’t play without. What it does is open up a cheat command that will allow you to do… pretty much anything you want.
If you thought you were a powerful ruler before, now you can force people to marry you, have your baby, owe you a favor, do mind control, upgrade buildings, add gold and more. Basically you can do anything and everything.
Visit the Steam Workshop page for Sketchy Cheat by Sketchy for more information and the list of cheats.
Your Personal Castle
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Your Personal Castle is the first mod on this list that spices up an aspect of the game that could use a little more attention. With Your Personal Castle, you can now build your own castle within the capital.
There is a gameplay element to this where you can gain stat increases, make decisions and respond to random events.
You can upgrade your castle to have features such as Garden, Wine Cellar, Chapel and Observatory, each with their own perks.

Shattered World
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Ever wonder how our world would have played out if emperors, kings and dukes, never carved everything up the way that they did? What if counts were as high as things got, and the world was split up into counties instead of duchies and kingdoms?
Well, the Shattered World Crusader Kings 2 mod explores that alternate reality. There are no dukes or kings in Shattered World, only counts and the world map is far more fractured than usual as a result.
You can check out Shattered World by Travis_Daily here if you’d interested.
A Bigger Interface
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Not every mod is going to be as flashy or grand the mods that precede and follow A Bigger Interface, but that doesn’t make them any less important.
A Bigger Interface is exactly what it sounds like. It extends most parts of the interface so that it will nicely fill a 1080p screen. You’ll be able to see more information and you’ll have access to more shortcuts.
It’s a low risk mod that’s pretty much just a no brainer. You can download A Bigger Interface by Kamufen here.
The Seven Kingdoms (Beta)
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Of course we’re going to have to feature A Game of Thrones/ASOIAF Crusader Kings II mod here right? It’s one of the most well-known and popular book/TV series of all time.
Rather than wait the books to complete, or for new spin-off shows to make you forget about Season 8 of Game of Thrones, go play out your own Westeros scenario instead.
In The Seven Kingdoms by Ah Rowan ma boot, you’ll play a scenario that takes place during the Petty Kingdoms era which features a more fractured continent.
Check it out here if you’re interested.
Better Looking Garbs
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Another quality-of-life-focused Crusader Kings II mod, Better Looking Garbs by Nendur simply makes the portraits prettier, adds more accurate garbs, and more diversity in the clothing style and apperance.
It’s another one of those mods you just kind of pick up, because why not, and just pretend like it was part of the game to begin with. If you’d like to pick it up, you can download it here from Steam Workshop.
Rich Childhood
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
I really enjoy mods like Rich Childhood because they take an element of the game that could be more interesting, and make it feel like an integral part. Like how did you ever play without it?
Rich Childhood expands the gameplay for when a king dies and a young heir is left to takeover the throne. Instead of just waiting around for the heir to mature, the mod adds 52 events that will allow you to shape the personality of your young king before they take over the throne.
You can download Rich Childhood by Slothinator right here.
Abdication
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Along the same lines as Rich Childhood, Abdication adds another slick new gameplay element to enhance your Crusader Kings II experience. With the abdication mod installed, you can simply have your monarch retire from the job before they die.
That way if you want to give a young heir a shot at the throne before they start getting old themselves you can do that, giving you more control over how you want to shape your gameplay.
You can download Abdication by BlacK and Cactusman right here.
Novus Graphicus
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Novus Graphicus is another one of those why the heck not mods. When you install it, you’ll make Crusader Kings Ii overall a more prettier and easier on the eye games for very little effort or risk.
It makes the water a more richer blue, adds more clearly defined borders, and overhauls the terrain to be more visually appealing.
Again, why not right? There are other graphical mods you can check out that might not play nice with Novus Graphicus, but give it a shot and see if you like this one.
You can download Novus Graphicus by In heaven here.
Elder Kings
Best Crusader Kings 2 Mods (CK2)
Finally we end on another excellent scenario mod to check out, especially if you’re a big fan of The Elder Scrolls, which I imagine a lot of people reading this are.
The Elder Scrolls series has an incredibly rich lore and this Crusader Kings II mod taps into that. It’s a total conversion mod meaning it overhauls everything to make it feel like an Elder Scrolls Crusader Kings game.
It’s set during the Second Era and features familiar playable characters from the series’ history not just in Tamriel but other locations in Nirn as well such as Akavir.
