Pokemon Sword & Shield is finally here, bringing with it a ton of new Pokemon to catch and a brand new area to explore with the Galar Region. For those early on in the game, you might be wondering How to Save Your Game in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
We have a detailed guide on the different types of saves and how to perform each one below.
How to Save Your Game in Pokemon Sword & Shield
Automatic Saves
For the first time in Pokemon history, Pokemon Sword & Shield has an Autosave feature. This means that the game will automatically save at various times throughout your journey.
The Automatic Save happens, well, automatically, but you can keep an eye on when it saves by directing your eyes to the top right corner of the screen and looking for the “Auto Saving” text that appears. Once that is completed, the AutoSave feature has initiated and your progress will be saved.
If this is a feature that you do not want to take advantage of, you can simply head to the Options menu and turn Autosave off. However, keep in mind that you will need to manually save your game from there on out or you risk losing your progress.
Manual Saving
Manual saving in Pokemon Sword & Shield is very similar to how the previous games in the series have handled saving.
Simply put, just head to the main menu by pressing the X button, look for the Save option and select it. From there, you will come across a very familiar looking screen if you have played any of the previous Pokemon games in the past.
This screen will show you your time played, current location, how many Pokemon you have in your Pokedex, as well as your currently equipped team of Pokemon. It will also tell you the last time you saved at the bottom right corner so you can keep track of your last save if needed.
To save the game, simply press the Save Game option at the bottom of this screen, allow it to do its thing, and then head back to your adventure in the Galar Region once it is completed.
Time needed: 1 minute
In short, here is How To Save Your Game in Pokemon Sword & Shield:
- Autosaving will take place automatically at various points during your adventure, however, this feature can be turned off in the options.
- Manually saving can be accomplished by pressing X to get to the Main Menu, selecting Save, and then hitting the Save Your Progress button.
