If you’re looking for a more realistic and grounded experience in your Modern Warfare multiplayer experience, you’ll want to make sure you’re playing the harder multiplayer modes. Here’s how to play Hardcore modes in Modern Warfare.
Playing Hardcore Multiplayer in Modern Warfare
To play any of the harder multiplayer modes in Modern Warfare, select and press A/ X on the ‘Filter’ option next to ‘Quick Play’ on the Play screen. From here, you’ll see a bunch of standard multiplayer modes. Go down the list pressing X/ A on each of them to deselect them.
If you now press Square / X, you should now see the following Hardcore multiplayer modes in Modern Warfare
- HC Team Deathmatch
- HC Cyber Attack
- HC Domination
- HC Search and Destroy
- HC Headquarters
As long as all of these have the yellow lights next to them, you’re now free to simply hit the ‘Quick Play’ option from the lobby screen to play any of theese special multiplayer modes.

Playing Specific Hardcore Modes
If you only want to play a few specific hard modes, go back into the ‘Filter’ menu and simply deflect the modes you don’t want to play by highlighting them and pressing X/ A on them. The yellow light next to them should now go out, indicating it’s no longer selected.
What’s Different in Modern Warfare Hardcore Modes?
These modes make the following changes to the multiplayer experience:
- Limited HUD
- Low health
- Friendly fire enabled
