Modern Warfare, which is a reboot of sorts for the Call of Duty sub series, brings the single-player campaign back to the series. However, that doesn’t mean that the usual suite of multiplayer modes are going anywhere. So that you know before jumping in, here’s everything you need to know about how many players can play splitscreen multiplayer in Modern Warfare.
First thing to note is that you can actually play splitscreen mulitplayer in a few different modes in Modern Warfare.
While the traditional 4v4 offline multiplayer was scaled back a few years ago, you can still jump in with a friend or family member from the comfort of your couch.
You can play online, with one player acting as a guest for the account you’re signed in on the console as. Then, on top of that, you can also play Modern Warfare’s Spec-Ops mode, which is a co-op focused mode, in splitscreen.
How Many Players Can Play Splitscreen Multiplayer in Modern Warfare?
As far as we can tell, you cannot play with anymore than two players in Modern Warfare’s splitscreen.
Whether you’re playing the standard multiplayer with someone by your side, or jumping into the various co-op and Spec Ops modes, it’s just you and one friend.
It’s also pretty complicated to set up splitscreen play in Modern Warfare. When you’ve turned the controller on, and pressed X if you’re on PS4 or A if you’re on Xbox One to connect to the lobby, you’ll have to login to a Activision account or sign up to one.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way around it, so you’ll just have to do it when you play first. However, once you do it, you won’t have to login to an account when you try to play splitscreen again.
It’s a maximum of two players in splitscreen in any mode.
