Project Resistance was teased a little more than a week before its actual debut at Tokyo Game Show 2019, but Capcom has finally unveiled the game in its entirety. You can check out the gameplay overview trailer down below.
It’s not quite the Outbreak successor or revival some fans might have been hoping for, but at least it doesn’t seem to be another mindless, unenjoyable horde shooter like Umbrella Corps or Operation Raccoon City.
Instead, Project Resistance seems to be Resident Evil’s take on the Dead by Daylight formula, where four survivors have to work together to escape an Umbrella facility. Meanwhile, a fifth player takes control of the mastermind, who uses a deck of in-game cards to influence the surroundings and lay traps and obstacles to prevent survivors from escaping.
The mastermind player can also take control of zombies and attack survivors directly, and even play as the infamous tyrant, Mr. X.
The survivors themselves have individual skills as well. One has tank abilities, one is a specialist in damage dealing, one is a support/healer character, while the last one is a hacker who can manipulate electronics. It’s unclear at this point whether there will be more characters included at or after launch to spice things up a little.
Players can sign up for the closed beta now, which will run from Oct. 4 to Oct. 7. The game is set to be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
