Larian Studios Celebrates Baldur’s Gate III Reveal With Funny Video; Grotesque Trailer Explained

Yesterday Larian Studios pretty much broke the internet by announcing Baldur’s Gate III, and today they released a new video.

The video, which you can watch at the bottom of the post, celebrates the announcement with a dramatization of how the deal with Wizards of the Coast happened. I would say that’s not exactly a 100% accurate representation of the negotiation, but it’s funny nonetheless.

Perhaps more relevant is the fact that the video hides the explanation of what you saw in yesterday’s reveal trailer.

The grotesque transformation is called Ceremorphosis, and it’s basically the way Mind Flayers (or illithids if you prefer their proper name) reproduce.

If you’re wondering, Mind Flayers are the creatures you see at the end of the trailer. Being hermaphrodites, they reproduce by implanting a tadpole in the brain of a humanoid. The tadpole then proceeds to eat the host’s brain and turn them into a new Mind Flayer.

You can check out the video below.

If you want to hear more, you can also watch the video in which Larian Studios Founder Swen Vincke introduced the project yesterday.

Baldur’s Gate III will be released when it’s ready on PC and Google Stadia. At the moment Larian isn’t talking about additional platforms.
