How to Get Charmander in Pokemon Let’s Go

Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu might take players back to the Kanto region all over again, but that doesn’t mean that things have stayed exactly the same. Your starters are now, as you may have guessed, Pikachu and Eevee, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get the original three. Here’s how to get Charmander in Pokemon Let’s Go.

Unfortunately, no, Professor Oak hasn’t got a Charmander sitting there waiting to be your companion across Kanto. However, you can still get one in one of two ways from our experience so far.

How to Get Charmander

  • You can catch one in the grass on Route 3.
  • An NPC will give you a free Charmander north of Cerulean City if you meet his requirements.
  • You can catch one in the wild on Route 4.

If you’re after catching a Charmander in the wild in Pokemon Let’s Go, remember that you can now see all Pokemon that are up for grabs. There aren’t any hiding away in the grass that isn’t visible, so if you don’t see a Charmander, move on and keep searching.

On the other hand, if you’re after getting that free Charmander off the NPC instead, there is a requirement you’ll need to meet first. Just like with Bulbasaur and Squirtle, you’ll need to have caught a certain amount of Pokemon in order for him to deem you worthy of taking it along on your journey.

Specifically, for Charmander, that number is 50, so make sure you’ve been catching literally every single ‘mon you see on your way. Simply head over to the NPC with the fire lizard next to him, and as long as you’ve caught 50 or more ‘mon, he’ll tell you how impressed he is and let you take the Charmander with you.

Not only is this good for ensuring you can get Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander from these NPCs as and when you come across them, but it also means you’ll be nicely leveling up your team and filling out your Pokedex nice and quickly.

Outside of that, there’s not a whole lot else you need to know on how to get Charmander in Pokemon Let’s Go. For more tips, tricks, and guides for your adventure across Kanto, be sure to check out our ever-expanding Pokemon Let’s Go guide wiki.
