What the Difference is Between Normal and Manual Control Mode in My Hero One’s Justice

My Hero One’s Justice finally brings the acclaimed anime and manga series to the world of video games. You’ll be able to choose from some of the most popular heroes and villains in the anime, to duke it out in arena brawler style. Each character in the game has special abilities built around their Quirks, and these special attacks can be linked together with basic attacks to create combos. My Hero One’s Justice has two different control modes for combat, however, and it’s not immediately clear what really makes the two different. Here’s the difference between normal and manual control mode in My Hero One’s Justice.

The Difference Between Normal and Manual

Before each battle in My Hero One’s Justice, whether it’s in the story or in local play, you’ll be able to set your control mode as Manual or Normal.

Normal control mode will automatically link your character’s Quirk attacks into combos on the square button (X on other systems). It’ll also extend your combos into longer combos simply by hitting square, and will contextually use whatever fits best for the situation. You can, of course, still use your Quirk attacks map to the other buttons normally. Meanwhile, Manual control mode does just that, give you full control over your combos. Instead of automatically linking combos together by hitting the square button, you’ll need to insert your own special attacks by hitting triangle and circle (or the corresponding buttons on other systems).

Which One Should You Use

As you might expect, these two control modes are very much meant for different kinds of players. Normal mode is much more accessible for newcomers, letting them string together lengthy combos without having to put in exact button combinations. On the other hand, Manual mode lets you input any kind of combo you want, giving you the freedom to choose which attacks to use. When you first start up My Hero One’s Justice you should play on Normal, at least for a little while. Playing on normal for a bit does a good job of showing what combos work well for each character, so you can use the mode to learn a bit about your chosen hero or villain, before you switch to Manual and do your own combos. Of course, if you’re wanting more challenging combat from the get-go, you can just always play in Manual control mode.
