Horses, Like the Rest of Red Dead Redemption 2, Will Be an Ever-Changing and Evolving Aspect of the Game

Rockstar has detailed horses in Red Dead Redemption 2 and much like the rest of the game, they’ll be growing and changing in many of the same ways Arthur Morgan does.

On a new page uploaded to the site for Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar detailed the wildlife of the game and horses got their very own section. According to the page, there will be 19 breeds of horses ranging from Appaloosas to Arabians to Shires and of course, Mustangs. Each of these breeds will handle differently and come with their own personality and characteristics. They can be captured in the wild and broken or purchased from a stable (or stolen if you’re that kind of cowboy).

Like Arthur Morgan, players must keep their horse healthy and groomed. They’ll need to be fed in order to maintain stamina and health and they’ll need to exercise often to improve in areas such as stamina, performance and handling — it will be up to you to keep your horse in tip-top shape.

With these horses, there will be 59 unique styles of coat with a range of other customization options such as saddles, horns, stirrups, spurs and more. The more you ride your horse and take care of it, the stronger the bond between Morgan and that horse will grow, providing room for maximum capacity stats. As you and your horse bond, bonus bonding perks will be unlocked and players will earn extra rewards for treating their companion so well. What those rewards are though are as of yet unknown.

Depending on what your horse is outfitted with, horses will be able to carry animals and more as you trek back to the nearest trading post.

Players will be able to test the bond between Arthur Morgan and their horse of choosing in Red Dead Redemption 2 when it releases on PS4 and Xbox One on Friday, Oct. 26.
