Link Is Simply Magnetic in This New Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Footage

Nintendo dropped some new footage for 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild today, and it shows off one of Link’s new items.

In the video, which you can see in the tweet below, Link uses the Magnesis tool — basically a magical magnet — in the Shrine Oman Au to manipulate various pieces of the environment. Using the Magnesis, Link can be seen uncovering an opening in the floor, pulling a treasure chest toward him and swinging open giant doors to open the way forward.

Nintendo first showcased the Magnesis back in June when it debuted the first footage of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at E3. There was some speculation at the time that the item was an in-game representation of the goofy-looking horseshoe controller that Nintendo patented back in April. Of course, that controller — or any other — has yet to be announced as an actual Nintendo product.

Nintendo does have a habit of rendering its hardware in its games, though. For the latest example, look no further than Breath of the Wild’s Sheikah Stone, which bears a striking resemblance to the Wii U tablet controller. Still, a horseshoe shape would make for the most ludicrously shaped controller for a major console since Sony announced its instantly memed and ultimately changed batarang PS3 controller. And it was just yesterday that we reported yet another Nintendo controller patent filing that looks nothing like the horseshoe concept.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled for release in 2017 on Wii U and Nintendo NX.
