What is Dev Error 5479? Answered

Dev Error 5479 isn’t something unique to only Modern Warfare 2. It has plagued players of both Warzone and Vanguard in the past. Regarding the previous games, players have said that it crops up around a new patch, so it’s possibly due to something going wrong in the game’s files.

Modern Warfare 2 Dev Error 5479 Fixes

You’re likely seeing Dev Error 5479 alongside a crash in Modern Warfare 2. With how messy Modern Warfare 2 has been since it launched, it’s possible this is just something that will happen periodically until the next big patch hits and straightens things out.

However, if you are seeing this error frequently, it might not just be due to the state of the game. The issue is that while it affects PC and console players, PC players have more options to potentially correct the issue.

The first step is the usual testing of the water, and you’ll want to fully close the game as well as your Battle.net launcher (for PC players). With the game completely closed, restart your PC/console. There are also a couple of further fixes available to anyone on PC.

If the above didn’t change anything, other reports have pointed the blame at any in-game overlay programs running while the game is going. Just to be safe, turn off Discord or anything like it that is running.

Similar to the above, you should also close programs that are drawing heavily from your internet connection. You can check this by going into your Task Manager. To open it, you just right-click the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and select Task Manager. When it opens, go into Processes and look at the far right tab that says Network. Directly click the Network tab to show you all programs in descending order. If anything shows up here, close it before starting the game.

It could also be possible there’s something behind the scenes interfering with the game. It can’t hurt to go into your anti-virus software and whitelist the main EXE file that starts Modern Warfare 2. This file will be called “sp22-cod.exe”. You’ll probably need to Google how to do this through your specific program, but most are user-friendly when it comes to this process.

In the event that the above fixes don’t work, we’re going to have to fight back with a rather annoying tactic and give the game a full uninstallation. Modern Warfare 2 is a big game, but if this error is keeping you from actually playing it, there’s not really a better option available.

This should hopefully get you up and running and lessen the frequency of the crashes.

This is everything you need to know regarding how to fix Dev Error 5479 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We mentioned the awful UI above, but the good news is that a fix is rumored to be coming.
