Barbie will be making her big-screen debut in U.S. theaters on July 21, 2023, which is still pretty far away. However, nothing came to fruition. After Sony’s option expired the rights were transferred to Warner Bros. Pictures. Margot Robbie, who is well-known for her role as Harley Quinn was cast in 2019 as the lead actress and also serves as a producer under LuckyChap Entertainment alongside Mattel Films and Heyday Films.
A first-look image was shared of Robbie in a pink convertible, with a big smile on her face and wearing a polka dot headband behind the wheel. The upcoming Barbie movie is one of multiple Mattel properties that are in the pipeline for feature adaptation. Several projects based on the magic 8 ball, Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, Polly Pocket, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, and others are all being worked upon.
