How to Get Samara or Morinth Loyal in Mass Effect 2 – Loyalty Guide

The first thing that you need to know here is that you can get either Samara or Morinth loyal, but not both. Samara is a Justicar who upholds her benevolent code above all else, while Morinth is an Ardat-Yakshi who has been killing her mates due to a rare genetic condition. Gaining Samara’s loyalty will result in losing out on Morinth and vice-versa because Samara has made it her mission to put an end to Morinth’s casual murders.

It’s also important to note that a high amount of Paragon or Renegade points are needed for a crucial decision made in Samara’s loyalty mission if you want to recruit Morinth. With that in mind, splitting Paragon/Renegade decision down the middle during your playthrough isn’t the best idea.

Samara’s Loyalty Mission

This loyalty mission will come to you after going through several conversations with Samara. After she sends some time on the Normandy, you’ll receive the Samara: The Ardat-Yakshi mission in which she asks you to help her catch and kill Morinth.

There’s no combat during this mission. Instead, you’ll be tasked with getting Morinth’s attention through the completion of several activities on Omega. There are a total of six activities (two Paragon, two Renegade, and two neutral), and three need to be done successfully for Morinth to notice you. Failing four activities will cause you to lose out on loyalty for both Samara and Morinth.

After completing three, Morinth will speak with Shepard. Choose dialogue options that portray Shepard as a confident and dangerous person. She’ll then bring you to her apartment and attempt to kill you by dominating your mind in the Asari mating process. Having high enough Paragon or Renegade points will allow you to resist this.

Samara will show up whether you resist or not, but if you do resist, you’ll get to choose who you aid when the mother and daughter start fighting each other. Be aware, whoever you side with will survive while the other dies. If you don’t have enough points to resist, you’ll automatically help Samara and won’t receive and morality rewards for it.

Choosing to side with Samara will gain her loyalty, unlock her Reave ability, and provide a huge boost in Paragon points. Siding with Morinth will gain her loyalty, unlock her Dominate ability, give you tons of Renegade points, and she’ll disguise herself as Samara to join you on the Normandy.

For those who are concerned about romance options, you’ll want to know that romancing Morinth results in death because of her Ardat-Yakshi genetics. Romancing Samara doesn’t result in much either though since she ends up choosing her Justicar code over a relationship.

That’s everything you need to know about how to get and keep Samara or Morinth’s loyalty in Mass Effect 2. If you’re looking for more loyalty guides, be sure to check out our guide wiki for Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
