Sega: Sakura Revolution Has Slowed Down Considerably; Not Planning to Sell Pachinko & Pachislot Business

Today Sega published a transcript of the Q&A session of its latest financial conference call, and it came with some interesting details.

We hear that the Sakura Wars mobile game Sakura Revolution: Blooming Maidens was doing well immediately after its launch, but it has “slowed down considerably.” While some mobile games like the new Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World: Lost in Memories have been successful in that challenge, some have more issues being accepted.

Sega intends to consider how to handle numerical outlooks and to think about the issue, since they have received multifaceted feedback from the fans.

On the other hand, an investor asked whether there was a possibility of spinning-out the pachinko & pachislot machine business in the future to focus only on the Entertainment Contents business (IE: video games).

Sega admitted that the pachinko and pachislot market is shrinking overall, but it can be highly profitable business if the company can win a share in it, so they’d rather aim for high profits. The Sega Sammy group aims to acquire and maintain a top share in the business, and they’re not considering selling it.

This is quite interesting due to the fact that Sega spun-off its arcade business among a slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as announced in November.

This led to wild speculation on whether the company was interested in getting rid of all its physical amusement businesses, possibly to pave the way for its gaming business to be acquired. The fact that they intend to hold onto the pachinko & pachislot business likely indicate that said speculation lacks any solid basis.
