FIFA 21 Icon Swaps Explained

Icon Swaps works in a similar way in FIFA 21 to how it did last year. You’ll see objectives in the Seasons tab that you need to complete to unlock player tokens throughout the season.

Player tokens are untradeable special versions of low rated players that have no real use beyond being traded in for Icon players in SBCs.

Each Icon included in Icon Swaps in FIFA 21 will need a specific number of tokens to unlock.

There will be a maximum of 18 tokens available to unlock, with eight of them available now and 10 more coming at the start of season 3 in three weeks’ time. In short, here’s the info you need.

  • Icon Swaps 1 lasts for 62 days, until Feb. 12, 2021
  • There are six players to unlock and some packs
  • Eight tokens are available now, with 10 more to come on Jan. 1, 2021.

There are only 8 to earn before the end of season 2. They all also require you to play in the One League Live FUT Friendly, which understandably limits your squad to one league.

  • Premier League – Win 6 matches in the Live FUT Friendly: One League, with at least 5 First Owned Premier League players in your starting squad.
  • Serie A – Win 6 matches in the Live FUT Friendly: One League, with at least 5 First Owned Serie A players in your starting squad.

  • Bundesliga – Win 6 matches in the Live FUT Friendly: One League, with at least 5 First Owned Bundesliga players in your starting squad.
  • Ligue 1 – Win 6 matches in the Live FUT Friendly: One League, with at least 5 First Owned Ligue 1 players in your starting squad.
  • Eredivisie – Win 5 Squad Battles matches on min. World Class difficulty with 11 Eredivisie players in your starting squad.
  • MLS – Win 5 Squad Battles matches on min. World Class difficulty with 11 MLS players in your starting squad.
  • EFL Championship – Win 5 Squad Battles matches on min. World Class difficulty with 11 EFL Championship players in your starting squad.

How to Unlock Players

Once you’ve got the required number of tokens for the Icons you want to unlock, head to the Squad Building Challenges section of the game.

In there, you’ll find a tab called Swaps, where the FGS Swaps were before. Open up the challenge for the Icon you want and put in the required number of player tokens. Submit the SBC squad, and the Icon will be given to you. You can do as many as you like during the Icon Swaps period, up to the maximum number of tokens.
