Harry Potter RPG ‘Hogwart’s Legacy’ Revealed During Sony’s PS5 Showcase

It was last year when rumors of a Harry Potter action-RPG was in the works after leaked footage appeared online, and today we finally have confirmation it was indeed accurate. Today, during Sony’s PS5 showcase, publisher Warner Bros and developer Avalanche revealed Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy, set to launch in 2021.

A meaty trailer that featured both cinematic scenes and gameplay sequences teed up the game’s premise, setting, and various mechanics.

Hogwart’s Legacy is an open-world action-RPG experience that will see players live out their Harry Potter fantasy as a student of Hogwarts, learning the arcane arts to become a wizard throughout the school’s different hallways, classrooms, and underground catacombs.

Notably, the game is set during the 19th century, just as the leak had suggested. An article over on the PS Blog by Adrian Ropp, head of Story at Avalanche working on Hogwarts Legacy said of the story premise:

“The Portkey Games label gave us a unique opportunity to return to Hogwarts during a different era. We are always asking ourselves how we can draw from the rich library of characters, creatures, and themes – and imagine how those details would influence the school more than a century before Harry Potter’s arrival.

Who was the headmaster? What challenges did students face?  What influenced their society before Tom Riddle, before Newt Scamander? I like to say that what we are giving fans is something familiar in a way they have never seen.”

Hogwart’s Legacy is set to launch on PS5 in 2021.
