The Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 speedrunning charity event will be an online only event next January, the organization announced.
The annual event will still be held from Jan. 3 to Jan. 10, 2021 through the Games Done Quick Twitch channel, but will be hosted from the Games Done Quick studio with the speedrunners playing the games from their own residences.
“While we eagerly await the day we can see our speedrun family and friends again, we will be continuing with an online format for AGDQ 2021 so that we can continue to observe best practices in keeping our community safe in the midst of COVID-19,” said Games Done Quick Director of Marketing and Business Development Kasumi Yogi in a press release. “We hope that conditions surrounding the pandemic improve so we can return to a venue for future events.”
The organization had done two previous speedrunning events online since the COVID-19 pandemic had swept across the United States last March. The Corona Relief Done Quick last April raised over $400,000 dollars for Direct Relief, and the annual Summer Games Done Quick raised over $2.3 million for the Doctors Without Borders organization last month.
The previous AGDQ last January raised over $3.1 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and was the last event that the organization held in front of a crowd before the pandemic.
