Fishing can be very lucrative in Animal Crossing New Horizons, especially if you’re catching the rare breeds. However, even if you’re only catching regular fish, you can still make a good bit of money off them if you sell them right. That’s where CJ comes in. CJ in Animal Crossing New Horizons
First things first, CJ will randomly show up to your island with no warning. This means that you kinda just have to wait for him to show up. He’ll usually hang around the main part of your island, and loiter near a water body with his fishing rod out.
You can then talk to him to sell him some fish, or take on his challenges.
CJ’s Fish Prices
While you can sell all your fish at Nook’s Cranny, it’s better to sell to CJ when he’s around as he’ll pay 1.5 times the usual amount. Here are all the fish prices we’ve found so far:

Getting Collectibles from CJ
If you really get into fishing in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you might want to consider getting some cool fish display figures for your house as well. CJ can help you out by offering you collectibles.
Collectibles are basically cool display models of your favorite fish, and you can parade them around your house like any other piece of furniture. CJ won’t charge you any Bells for ordering collectibles, but you do need to give him three of the same kind of fish in order to get a collectible.
In addition to that, he seems to be only able to take one collectible order at a time. This means that once you put in an order, he won’t be able to accept anymore, and your collectible will show up in your mailbox the next day.
Fishing Challenges
Whenever CJ shows up to your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you can also participate in some seasports challenges. These don’t really give you any reward in particular, but if you clear them, you can continue selling fish to him.
These challenges are usually pretty simple, requiring you to catch five fish in a row without mishandling the rod, or catch three of the same fish in the row. The latter sounds a little tricky, but just cast your line towards the same size of fish shadow and you should be good.
If you go for the larger fish shadows, you’ll be able to get the Sea Bass pretty frequently.
