First, you’re going to want to get your hands on a fishing rod. This can be crafted by heading to Resident Services and using the workbench. Here you’ll find the recipe for a Flimsy Fishing Pole. It’ll cost you five tree branches to craft.

How to Fish in Animal Crossing New Horizons

When you’re near a river or an ocean, you need to keep an eye out for little shadows in the water. They look like outlines of fish.

Equip your fishing pole and face the direction of these shadows in the water. Aim a bit in front of them, and use the pole by pressing A.

Once the line is cast and the bob is in the water, you need to wait until the fish fully submerges the bob underwater. Don’t be fooled by any nibbles, these won’t work!

Once the bob is underwater, you should hear a sound notification that will also help you out in knowing it’s time to press A.

If done correctly, your character will do all the work and reel it on in! Here’s a list of all the different ones you can get.
