Getting the Workbench in Animal Crossing New Horizons

The workbench is an essential tool in Animal Crossing New Horizons, as you’ll need it for crafting tools to help you make the most efficient use of your time on the island. Thankfully, it won’t be too long before you can get your hands on it.

All you have to do is play through the game and get past the intro, and on your first official day on the island, head over to Tom Nook’s Resident Services tent in the middle of the island. Once inside, talk to Tom himself and he’ll get you started with DIY recipes and teach you how to use the workbench.

Inside the Resident Services tent, simply interact with the workbench directly behind Tom Nook by pressing the A button. You’ll then open up a crafting menu where you can see all the DIY Recipes you’ve unlocked. If you have enough materials for once of these Recipes, simply select it, then press the A button to start crafting.

And that’s basically it. Once you make your selection, your character will craft the item, and it’ll be placed in your inventory. You can come back here anytime to continue crafting new tools and items.

Eventually, you’ll be able to get DIY Recipes for your own workbenches via villagers or washed up bottled messages. We’ve listed them below:

  • 5 Hardwood
  • 5 Softwood
  • 3 Iron Nugget
  • 1 Mini DIY Workbench
