With its mysterious story and charming art by Taro Minoboshi, Root Letter was a game of contrasts. Its successor Root Film isn’t going to be any different.
We get to see peaceful scenes on the beach and during gravure photoshoots in which Minoboshi-sensei’s artwork (that has been made popular by love simulators like Love+) shines, and a gruesome murder scene in which a corpse has been burned.
As Yasuda-san himself mentioned when we interviewed him last year, this game is going to go down a darker path compared to Root Letter.
“This time the game will be more mysterious. There may also be more murders. It’s going to be darker and more of a hardcore mystery story.”

The western release will come courtesy of PQube Games but doesn’t have a release date besides a generic “2020.”
